Controlling Cholesterol Through Proper Diet

The saying we are what we eat is not more true than in the case of naturally controlling cholesterol levels. However, the current American diet makes it difficult to do that. Fat is prevalent in many of the dishes that we choose to eat especially if we eat out on a regular basis. Fried foods are the biggest culprit in the take out lunch arena. So what to do?

In Ayurveda, practitioners have been known to add the herb tulsi to the diet of their patients.  What is tulsi? Tulsi is known as “holy basil.” Among the many benefits it has, there are three that deserve special mention. The first is that it can be used as a painkiller; second as an antioxidant; third as a catalyst to reduce glucose and cholesterol levels in the bloodstream.

Painkiller: Ever suffer with headaches, sore throat, etc. Tulsi naturally and quietly blocks the pain without the digestive side effects that Tylenol or aspirin can cause.

Antioxidant: boiling leaves, with honey and ginger is an effective remedy for bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold. Making a tea with the leaves, cloves and salt also gives immediate relief for the flu. Theraflu look out you have competition.

Reduction of glucose and cholesterol: Since tulsi reduces the level of blood cholesterol, it has a very great benefit in fighting cardiac disease. According to the US National Library of Medicine, when fresh tulsi leaves were fed to laboratory rats as 1 g and 2 g in 100 gms of diet for 4 weeks, something truly amazing happened. Major changes in the lipid profile of normal albino rabbits occurred. This resulted in significant lowering in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid and LDL-cholesterol (bad) levels and significant increase in the HDL-cholesterol (good).

The most wonderful thing about this amazing herb is that it is part of the powerful formulation found in Zrii the Original Amalaki. The tweet that I sent earlier today concerning my son quickly getting over a sore throat that resulted from all the Atlanta pollen is my personal testimony to the power of this amazing product. I invite you to give it a try as well. To your health naturally, your friend Cher.

Tennis Elbow Finding a Natural Remedy

Tennis elbow is inflammation, soreness, or pain on the outside of the upper arm near the elbow.

Sometimes the tendon that is connected to your muscle bone is torn.

A major cause of this condition is repetitive action. In other words when you use certain arm muscles over and over again, small tears develop in the tendon. Over time, this leads to irritation and pain where the tendon is attached to the bone.

Tennis elbow as a result is very common in people who play a lot of tennis or other racquet sports. Tennis pros will tell you that backhand is the most common stroke to cause symptoms.

On the other hand, a little know fact is that repetitive twisting of the wrist can lead to this condition. From working in the restaurant business I have observed chefs using that motion all the time when flipping omelettes or cutting a lot of veggies on the cutting board. Personally I also noticed friends of mine in the construction business who do a lot of up and down motion with their arms while painting also complained of tennis elbow like symptoms. Therefore, painters, plumbers, construction workers, cooks, and butchers are all more likely to develop tennis elbow.

Look out heavy computer and mouse users. Make sure that you have gel cushion mouse pads and a good desk for proper support.

Symptoms of the tennis elbow include:

  • Elbow pain that gradually worsens

  • Pain radiating from the outside of the elbow to the forearm and back of the hand when grasping or twisting

  • Weak grasp

Doctors will usually recommend anti-inflammatory medications (such as ibuprofen, naproxen, or aspirin).

However for those that want a natural remedy, the ayurvedic formulation in the liquid nutritional Zrii is known to help with inflammation. Aquaintances that have tried it for that have said they received tremendous results. Why does it work so well? The ayurvedic formula of Zrii contains jujube. Jujube is used by Chinese, Indian and Korean healers as a traditional remedy for its antifungal, antibacterial, antiulcer, anti-inflammatory, sedative, antispastic, antifertility/contraception, hypotensive and Antinephritic, cardiotonic, antioxidant, immunostimulant, and wound healing properties The jury is out let me know your thoughts.

Ayurveda For Natural Living and Health (Introduction for Beginners)

Preventing Cancer Through Diet

Ayurveda uses many herbs and natural foods to nourish the body. Some of these foods actually help prevent cancer cells from forming because they do not have the right environment. By environment I mean the internal condition of your body can be a fertile site for cancer cells, just as certain soil is more fertile for seed growth than others. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to cancer cells.

Secondly, acid levels can also help cancers form. If you drink a lot of sodas or eat a lot of meat your acid levels will be high. Vegetable proteins are better. Hence, more beans, chick peas, etc.

Thirdly, milk forms mucus and cancer cells love to feed on mucus. Therefore, Almond Milk, Soy Milk and Rice Milk are better alternatives to Cow Milk.

Fourth, cancer can be reversed with the the proper nutrition and supplements. One herb in Ayurveda that has been used for over 2000 years is Gymnema. It is a sugar destroyer. Less sugar in the body means cancer cells will starve. There is a holistic health and wellness product that contains Gymnema along with other botanicals.
